Chinese pair Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei ousted Ahmad Tontowi and Natsir Liliyana of Indonesia 2-0 in the mixed doubles final at the Asian Games here on Monday.
It was the fourth title Chinese shuttlers have won at these Games. They have already bagged women's team, men's and women's singles.
The Indonesian duo started stronger, leading by 13-7, but Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei quickly battled back with smashes and quick shots, turning on the power for 18-14 before taking the game 21-16.
The second game saw the Chinese pair wrong footed their opponents at the start before going into the break 11-8, and after that they managed to fend off an attempted Indonesian comeback with a determination to get back every shot and pulled away to win 21-14.
"We won because we were thoroughly prepared," said Zhao. "Their good performance yesterday is a boost to their confidence, so we've well prepared to face difficulties."
"The win is a hard-fought one, because our opponents are good players. We went all out and played to the best of our capacities," added Zhang.
The bronze went to Jordan Praveen and Susanto Debby of Indonesia and Chinese pair Xu Chen and Ma Jin.
