India Open: Lee Chong Wei registers a convincing win over Taufik Hidayat in quarter-final

Malaysia’s in-form player Lee Chong Wei showed his craft when he ousted the former Olympic and World Champion Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia in Men’s Singles quarter-final of India Open Super Series 2012 at New Delhi, India, on Friday, April 27.

The World Number 1 Chong Wei showed his elite skills against the experienced Indonesian shuttler and bagged victory with a comprehensive margin on the board.

The top seeded in the tournament Chong Wei did not let his rival to dominate the pace of rallies at any stage and won it in straight games with an impressive fashion.

On the other hand, the World Number 12 Taufik played well in the opening set but failed to put up strong resistance in the second game and lost the match without winning any set.

Chong Wei, who has been playing remarkable badminton at international level for the last four years, continued his positive run and secured a semi-final spot in India Open without facing any considerable resistance in the quarter-final clash.

Both experienced shuttlers played top quality badminton in the opening half of first game.

They remained positive and progressed closely until the mid-game interval when Chong Wei was slightly ahead at 11-9.

After the break, Taufik geared up his speed at net and levelled the score at 11-11. They remained equal until 15-15 when Chong Wei geared up his speed and took the game with a 21-16 score on the board.

In the second set, both shuttlers played attacking badminton and reached at 8-8 when Chong Wei controlled the affairs and started to dominate the pace of rallies.

Until the one-minute break, Chong Wei managed to take a three-point advantage over Taufik by reaching at 11-8.

After the break, Taufik tried to play fast badminton but failed to dominate rallies as his opponent was in complete control.

Chong Wei remained on track in the entire concluding phase and won the set with a tremendous 21-13 score on the board.

The World Number 1 reached into Men’s Singles semi-final after winning his contest at the top-eight stage with a margin of 21-16 and 21-13.
