Japanese women end jinx to storm to two finals

Eriko Hirose and Mizuki Fujii-Reika Kakiiwa reached the women’s singles and doubles finals of the YONEX All England Championships on Saturday, to end a jinx which has haunted the country for several decades.

Eriko has become the first Japanese shuttler to contest the women’s singles crown since Saori Kondo did so in 1979. The last Japanese to win the women’s singles title was Hiroe Yuki in 1975.
