Malaysian veteran out to end eight-year drought

Malaysia’s Wong Choong Hann faces an uphill battle to end an eight-year drought when he faces Japanese youngster Sho Sasaki in Sunday’s YONEX Australian Open Grand Prix Gold final.

Choong Hann, the 2003 World Championship runner-up, has not won an Open title since the 2003 Taiwan Open. He will also be gunning for revenge as the last time he met Sho, the Japanese shuttler pulled off a stunning victory to help Japan to a 3-2 victory in last year’s Thomas Cup – it was Malaysia’s first ever defeat to their Asian rivals in the competition.
