Indonesian women’s doubles pair Meiliana Jauhari-Greysia Polii advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 Djarum Indonesia Open after defeating their Japanese nemesis in their quarterfinal match.
Both Greysia and Meiliana managed to put an end to four consecutive losses to Miyuki Maeda and Satoko Suetsuna of Japan by defeating them in straight sets with scores of 21-13 and 21-16 at the Istora Indoor Stadium in the Senayan Sports Complex on Friday.
The Japanese shuttlers, seeded eighth in the US$650,000 event, defeated the Greysia and Meiliana pair in their previous four meetings, all of them in straight sets.
“We know that both of them [Miyuki and Satoko] have a very good defensive game. With that, we have decided to concentrate on each point,” said Meiliana as quoted by kompas.com.
During the semifinals, which will take place on Saturday, the Indonesian pair will challenge the second seed from China, Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei. Earlier, Tian and Zhao defeated their compatriots Huan Xia and Tang Jinhua by 21-11 and 21-15.
In their only meeting at the 2012 Uber Cup championship a month ago in Wuhan, China, the Chinese pair won the match almost without breaking a sweat at 21-7 and 21-9.
“We have learned a lot from the [previous] loss and now we are seeking payback,” said Greysia.
