The 2013 Yonex All England Badminton Championships get underway later today at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England.
The All England Open Championships are the oldest and most prestigious in Open badminton history, and as the 2013 entry indicates, it is a highly coveted prize with almost all the top names in the sport set to participate this year.
Malaysian super star Lee Chong Wei will be in Birmingham and the world No. 1 is confident on his chances of repeat success.
Wei won the event in 2010 and 2011 but was forced to withdraw from last year’s final against Lin Dan of China due to a shoulder injury.
"The field is still strong with several Chinese players in the fray but I’m still hungry for success," he told reporters.
Although Lin Dan won't be in Birmingham to defend his title, the Chinese are well represented with second seed Chen Long, former world champion Chen Jin, Du Pengyu, Wang Zhengming and Gao Han all strong contenders.
Chong Wei will take on Wong Wing Ki of Hong Kong in his first round match on Wednesday.
The 2013 edition of the All England Open Championships are also significant as they mark the 30th consecutive year of title sponsorship by Yonex.
Yonex is set to surpass the Stella Artois tennis tournament (1979-2008) as one of the longest-running tournament sponsorships in sports history.
