Sony Dwi Kuncoro, homeland's men's single had himself qualified to the top 16 after defeating third seed Peter Gade. Sony who played in front of his supporters and supported by thousands of spectators who watched the match in the stadium needed three games to overcome the Denmark's first seed.
After ruined his chance in the first game 14 - 21, Sony successfully overcame the next two games with 21 - 7 and 21 - 8. This will be Sony's 3rd victory over Peter. "Sony now is back to the right track," praised Peter.
In the first game, Sony admits he was not aggressive enough. "I didn't fight aggressively and didn't defend well in the first game," he said.
The next two games, Sony said he could deal with pressures, focus on the match and he knew what he had to do. This victory becomes a milestone that Sony will be a considerable threat in men's single. In the last two tournaments he had, Sony succeeded to be a runner up in
Malaysia Grand Prix Gold, and a champion in Thailand Grand Prix last week
"For tomorrow's match I too will observe how the situation goes in the court, hopefully I can give my best ability," Sony said.
Men's single first seed, Chen Long dealt with massive resistance by Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, he was forced to play three games although he finally won with 16 - 21, 21 - 11 and 21 - 19
