Yonex French Open : The Seeds Just Keep Falling

The day is far from over but the shocks just keep on coming ! Several seeds have fallen at the first hurdle but the most surprising among them is the defeat of fifth seed and reigning champion Taufik HIDAYAT from Indonesia. Powerless in the face of the irresistible young Chinese Zhengming WANG (18), Taufik bowed out of what may be his last French open 21/17, 21/16. He will certainly be missed by the French public who had adopted him as one their favourite sons.

The Korean doubles pairing KO/YOO (4) was undone by yet another Chinese pair, HONG/SHEN (18) in three games 13/21, 21/14, 21/15. Both players had the experience needed to get through but will be able to seek consolation in the Mixed Doubles, where both are still in the running.

In the Women's Singles competition eighth seed Tine BAUN lost in three tight games 15/21, 21/19, 21/19 against the Chinese Taipei player TAI (18). Another seed has been knocked out of the Women's Singles draw, the Chinese Xin LIU (7), forced to retire at 6/6 in the first game of her match against SATO (16).

Two seeds are out of the Women's Doubles, the pair from Chinese Taipei CHENG/CHIEN (5) who lost by the tightest of margins 22/20, 23/21 against the Singapore pair SARI/YAO (15), and the Indonesian JAUHARI/POLI (8) lost against the Malaysians HOO/WOON (42) 18/21, 21/16, 21/15.
